Our Hospital

Our Hospital
Oakwood Hills Animal Hospital, LLC, is a veterinary hospital limited exclusively to small animals. We offer pet health care and preventive care for companion animals, including canines, felines, ferrets, and other small exotics (mammalian pocket pets). We offer referral for avian and reptile species.

Construction of the original facility occurred in 1979. The unique architecture of the hospital stems from its original design as an active and passive solar facility. The long, gently sloped roof and earth-bermed northern walls shelter us from heat loss and winds in the winter while the steep southern roof houses solar collectors. As one of the first solar veterinary hospitals in the United States, we were the subject of a 1980 article in the Journal of American Veterinary Medial Association.

In 1997, the boarding facility was improved and additional space was added on the west side of the building. Improvements in 2002 included another addition, this time on the east side. At that time extensive interior remodeling doubled the space of the animal hospital and has allowed us to better accommodate the needs of our patients and clients. Our veterinarians offer a full range of medical and surgical services. A full support staff is available to help provide the best possible care for our patients and clients.

In 1999, Oakwood Hills Animal Hospital received one of only 60 awards ever given in North America for excellence in veterinary medicine and practice management. We received this "Practice of Excellence" designation from Veterinary Economics. A feature article appeared in that publication in the September 1999 issue. This award considered our performance in six categories:

  • Our HospitalPractice Mission
  • Quality of Medicine and Surgery
  • Client Relations
  • Staff Relations
  • Practice Management
  • Community and Personal Involvement

AAHA logoIn July 2013, the American Animal Hospital Association reaccredited our hospital. We look forward to continuing to grow with our community of clients and their pets and plan to face whatever challenges and opportunities present themselves to us. We continue to implement improvements that will offer your pet even better care.
